Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Sunday; After Rain in the Leopardstown 15:10. Compare odds and bet.
The Coral.IE Handicap Hurdle looks as competitive as ever, despite the fact that Heartbreak City heads the market at around the 5-2 mark. Based on the improvement this horse made on the Flat since last seen over hurdles (won the Ebor and runner-up in the Melbourne Cup) he looks potentially ‘chucked in’ here.
He might well translate that improvement and win this, but given the competitiveness of the race and the fact that he has travelled to Australia and back, I’m prepared to look elsewhere for a bit of each-way value.
The rapidly improving That’s A Wrap looks the obvious alternative, coming from an uncompromising position to score over course-and-distance at Christmas. The placed horses re-oppose and, at the prices, I’ll take a stab at After Rain (3:10) who was sent off 9-2 market leader for this last year and was trading at 12-1 this time around (at the time of writing).
He finished third to That’s A Wrap here last time, stepping forward on what he had shown to date this term, and has a 3lb pull for a 1¼ length defeat. He might have finished a little closer, too, had After Rain not been shortened up as the field turned for home, after which he had to switch wide. Luck in running is pre-requisite in these races around Leopardstown, especially if being held up, but he has sound claims, if granted that luck on Sunday.
