Paul Ferguson has two selections from Newbury for us on Saturday; Robin Roe in the 1.50 and Geordie Des Champs in the 3.00. Compare odds and bet.
Impressive when winning a decent maiden hurdle at Aintree in October, Robin Roe (1:50) remains a really exciting prospect and Dan Skelton’s five-year-old can land this afternoon’s Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury.
The runner-up from Aintree has won twice since and his Warwick bumper success has also worked out really well. This race has been the target since his debut victory and, though he has much more on his plate, he is expected to take the step up in class in his stride.
Elsewhere on the card, his stable-companion Born Survivor is a horse that I really like, but he was a shade disappointing here last time and Geordie Des Champs (3:00) looks well handicapped on an opening mark of 129.
The five-year-old has won all three starts over hurdles to date and the step back up in trip ought to bring about improvement. He opened up 5-1 on Friday evening and it will be a shock if he isn’t involved in the finish, so he looks a sound each-way play at the odds.
