Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Bun Doran in the Newcastle 14:55 and Mall Dini 14:45 at Fairyhouse. Compare odds and bet.
Tom George sends a couple of nice novice chase prospects on the long journey north to Newcastle and Bun Doran (2:55) is fancied to go well against more experienced rivals, in the 2m4f Protecting Your Health Handicap Chase.
Regular readers will know that I have been banging the drum of this horse for the best part of 14 months, flagging him up for the first time when he made a winning Rules debut in a Chepstow bumper last November. He really impressed me when winning his Irish point and he finished third at Uttoxeter on his chase debut last month.
Ridden aggressively on that occasion, the five-year-old faded into third late on and will need to fence more fluently in this company. He can be expected to improve for that outing, however, and the race is working out quite well, as there were a few winners in behind. Dropped 1lb in the weights, he can go close granted a more conservative ride – Adrian Heskin takes over and he could be in for a big day, with stable-mate Battle Of Shiloh another to note, and Kimberlite Candy should take the beating in the opener.
Over at Fairyhouse, Yorkhill will no doubt be the novice chaser most people are most exited about seeing, but the 3m beginners chase is also worth noting, where Mall Dini (2:45) can strike for Patrick Kelly and Davy Russell.
The winner of the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham in March, he won a couple of Point-to-Points and made a really pleasing debut when third on debut recently. Coney Island franked that form when winning the Drinmore recently (he finished second) and, with the step up in trip likely to suit, he can get off the mark at the second time of asking.
