Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Copper Kay in the 15:45 and Two Taffs 14:00 both at Sandown. Compare odds and bet.
Fourth in the same race 12 months ago Copper Kay (3:45) is fancied to defy the penalty in Sandown’s Listed mares’ bumper on Saturday.
Philip Hobbs’ six-year-old has won both starts this term, impressively in this grade when last sighted at Cheltenham during November, and she looks up to the task of completing the hat-trick under Richard Johnson.
There are several smart fillies and mares in opposition this afternoon, Avellino being one who has caught the eye over in Ireland, but none look more exciting than this well-bred daughter of Kayf Tara. She was trading at 7-4 on Friday evening.
Earlier on the card, the EBF Final looks an excellent renewal, with several interesting youngster on show, one being Two Taffs (2:00) who finally gets the chance to step up in distance.
Despite remaining a maiden over hurdles, Dan Skelton’s six-year-old has shown smart form in defeat on all three starts over timber and looks sure to go well. The son of Flemensfirth didn’t enjoy the run of the race on Boxing Day and is bred to relish today’s longer trip. Available at 9-2 overnight, he should be backed each-way in what looks a really competitive affair.
The others on my shortlist are trading at much bigger odds (all around the 20-1 mark at the time of writing) and are Potters Corner, who looks very well handicapped on his bumper form, Western Cape who probably needs to step forward again but might appreciate better ground, and Paddy’s Field who gets in at the foot of the weights and could be capable of reversing qualifying form from Warwick.
This looks a race to pay close attention to with the future in mind.
