Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Thursday; Stilletto in the Leicester 15:55. Compare odds and bet.
Stilletto (3:55) is in danger of becoming a ‘cliff horse’ of mine, but I am convinced that Paul Nicholls’ seven-year-old remains a good way ahead of the handicapper on his current mark of 132.
The winner of a decent beginners’ event at Catterick on his debut over fences and his second start for the stable, he travelled all over subsequent Kingmaker winner Violet Dancer at Newbury, but didn’t quite go through with his effort. He undoubtedly has his own ideas about things and we don’t know what would have happened last time, as he was still on the bridle when coming down three out.
Given how the son of Westerner races (keenly and fails to settle) I’m a little surprised he hasn’t been tried over shorter and I don’t think he’d be out of place in a Grand Annual or a Red Rum. If he is to line-up at next month’s festival, he probably needs to be winning this today – if he sees out the trip thoroughly, that would bring the novice handicap chase into the equation.
Thursday’s selection:
