Paul Ferguson has two selections from Newbury for us on Wednesday; Wait For Me in the 1.15 and Big Chief Benny at 3.00. Compare odds and bet.
After a promising third on his debut over hurdles at the Hennessy meeting BIG CHIEF BENNY (3:00) can get off the mark at Newbury on Wednesday.
Alan King’s four-year-old shaped with an abundance of promise behind two potentially start sorts and a reproduction of that form ought to be good enough here.
The son of Beneficial steps up in trip slightly here, something that could bring about further improvement given his running style. Placed in a couple of bumpers, Wayne Hutchinson’s mount can take full advantage of the 7lbs he receives from the three previous winners.
Philip Hobbs’ WAIT FOR ME (1:15) finished one place ahead of Big Chief Benny, when runner-up here last month, and he too can get off the mark at the second time of asking over timber.
The impressive winner of an Ascot bumper (actually had Big Chief Benny in behind that day, too, though he failed to run to form on that occasion) in February, he went on to finish third in the Champion Bumper.
The Saints Des Saints five-year-old didn’t jump particularly well on debut and he’ll need to improve in that department if he is to fulfil his undoubted potential.
Hopefully that experience won’t be lost on him and he is favoured to hurdling debutant, Potters Corner, who also brings smart bumper form to the table.
Wednesday’s selections:
1:15 Newbury – Wait For Me
3:00 Newbury – Big Chief Benny
