The winner of the race 12 months ago Paint The Clouds (20:00) can retain his crown in Stratford’s Champion Hunters’ Chase, under Sam Waley-Cohen.
Warren Greatrex’s 10-year-old won impressively at Doncaster in February, before he found the ground softer than ideal at Cheltenham on Gold Cup when finishing third behind On The Fringe in the Foxhunter.
He went on to run a cracker in the Bet365 Gold Cup, finishing fourth off a mark of 137, when the ground was again slightly slower than ideal. Today’s quicker surface will be very much in his favour and, back on that favoured surface, he is fancied to outstay main market rival Pacha Du Polder.
Paul Nicholls’ eight-year-old got a lot closer to On The Fringe at Aintree, but that was over much shorter and he has to prove his stamina this evening.
