Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Thursday; Elm Park in the York 15:15. Compare odds and bet.
Despite making his seasonal reappearance in an ultra-hot renewal of the Dante Stakes, ELM PARK (3:15) is fancied to stake his Derby claims for Andrew Balding.
Last year’s Royal Lodge and Racing Post Trophy winner should appreciate both the step up in trip and the long home straight at York, and his form entitles him to be shorter in the market than he actually is (I’d have him as favourite).
The son of Phoenix Reach faces several potentially high-class rivals this afternoon, including the highly touted John F Kennedy and the improving Jack Hobbs.
The latter was an impressive winner on his return, but it is worth remembering that was a handicap off just 85, while the former was far from convincing when only third on his return at Leopardstown. Admittedly, several from his yard have needed their first run and this beautifully bred colt is expected, by many, to improve for meeting faster ground.
Taking all things into consideration, I’m prepared to side with the proven Group class performer on his return to action, despite him being pitched in deep on return.
Thursday’s selection:
15:15 York – Elm Park; 4/1 Paddy Power
