Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Wednesday; Grande Antarctique in the Ayr 13:50. Compare odds and bet.
Before yesterday’s blank at Wetherby, Jennie Candlish had saddled three winners and three seconds from just 10 runners since the turn of the year and her Grande Antarctique (1:50) is fancied to get off the mark in Ayr’s 2m4f maiden hurdle.
Runner-up in a couple of Wetherby bumpers last spring, the five-year-old shaped with considerable promise on his penultimate start at Bangor (had unseated at the first on debut) before struggling in a deeper looking event at the same track earlier this month.
The step up in trip should bring about plenty of improvement and, though he might not come into his own until entering handicap company, he can take this en route.
Of the opposition, rules debutant Westend Star is one to pay close attention to in the market. Donald McCain’s expensive purchase is highly-regarded and the son of Old Vic can go well on his first start in almost a year.
Wednesday’s selection:
1:50 Ayr Grande: Antarctique; 2/1 Betfair
