Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Thursday; Zeroshadesofgrey in the Uttoxeter 12:45. Compare odds and bet.
Plenty to look forward to on Thursday, notably the chasing debut of Un De Sceaux over in Ireland, while the second start over hurdles of Jollyallan is possibly the pick of the action from the opening day of Newbury’s Hennessy Gold Cup meeting.
The best race on day one from the Berkshire track is the Gerry Feilden, in which the British debut of Le Mercurey is another highlight. The four-year-old must give weight away to all seven opponents, however, and, as he has been off the track for a year, it is asking plenty of him on his first start for Paul Nicholls. With that in mind, he is one to watch closely with the future in mind.
Elsewhere, recent course winner Zeroshadesofgrey (12:45) is fancied to make it two from two over hurdles at Uttoxeter, for Neil King and Trevor Whelan.
The grey was a smart bumper performer and stayed on powerfully over 2m4½f just 12 days ago, suggesting today’s 3m trip could well bring about further improvement. Connections hinted that his schooling hadn’t exactly gone to plan before he made that winning debut, but he certainly has an engine and handles deep ground, and is taken to score at the main expense of the Rebecca Curtis-trained Relentless Dreamer.
