Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Monday; King’s Odyssey in the Southwell 14:40. Compare odds and bet.
Southwell’s 32Red.com Novices’ Hurdle, in which a couple of potentially smart youngsters lock horns, looks an above-average contest by the course’s standards.
A Vos Gardes defied greenness to win both bumpers last term and looks an exciting recruit for Charlie Longsdon, whilst King’s Odyssey (2:40) shaped with an abundance of promise when runner-up at Warwick on his sole start.
An expensive purchase subsequently, the five-year-old makes his debut for Evan Williams and the Rucker’s having seen his form boosted considerably in the early weeks of the season. The King’s Theatre gelding chased home A Vos Gardes’ stable companion Battle Born (winner on hurdles debut at Uttoxeter) with last weekend’s wide-margin Carlisle winner Otago Trail back in third.
Both horses should be worth monitoring closely as they progress but, with that piece of form looking particularly strong, narrow preference today is for King’s Odyssey.
Monday’s selection:
2:40 Southwell: King’s Odyssey; 3/1 @ Ladbrokes
