Former trainer of classy hurdler Starluck, Alan Fleming returns to the fray in Ireland this afternoon and Deputy Pass (6:05) can provide him the perfect start in Roscommon’s Family Day August 18th Maiden Hurdle.
The five-year-olds point-to-point form reads pretty well (awarded race that Warrantor won and he went on to win a bumper for Warren Greatrex) and he shaped better than the bare result when seventh on his hurdling debut at the Punchestown Festival.
The Scorpion gelding travelled well for Danny Mullins that day and today’s contest represents a huge drop in class. Formerly trained by Pat Doyle, the selection carries the yellow and navy silks of Barry Connell and is fancied to get off the mark under rules.
