Live on ITV & BBC1: Jun 12-Jul 13: It’s an appealing 11/5 at Ladbrokes for England to qualify from World Cup Group D alongside Italy.
The big question to punters in Group D is ‘will England qualify?’
They’re 4/7 at William Hill to do so but Uruguay’s odds are identical and Italy are skinnier at 4/9 with Ladbrokes so Roy Hodgson’s men clearly have plenty of work to do.
A losing start against Italy, bet365’s 13/8 group favourites, will make the task tougher for the Three Lions, who will attract cash at 11/8 (Coral) to be eliminated at the group stage, but there are a few reasons to believe England can sneak through to the last 16.
Firstly, there are question marks about Uruguay’s strike force given that Luis Suarez is a huge injury doubt and Edinson Cavani didn’t have it all his own way in his first season at Paris St Germain while the lack of expectation means Hodgson’s side are pretty much free of pressure.
Nevertheless, they’ll have to adopt a fearless approach, but that’s not impossible in light of the selected personnel and subsequently, a case can be made for Ladbrokes’s 11/5 about England and Italy occupying first and second in any order. That’s a better bet than the same firm’s 15/8 for them to finish as runners-up.
