Live on Sky Sports 4: Thu 10:00 & 20:00 Angus Loughran previews the Irish Open and Travelers Championship.
After a runaway win at Pinehurst last week Martin Kaymer is still available at 18/1 to win next months Open Championship at Hoylake, a price which i think is very reasonable and unlikely to bé available during the week of the tournament.
There will bé a real buzz at this week’s Irish Open where Rory McIlroy will bé hard to beat despite being 5/1 market leader and having the extra pressure of it being his home competition.
Graeme McDowell will love the course in Cork and at 18/1 will bé a popular alternative but the pressure on the home players is huge, as Padraig Harrington a 66/1 chance this week, has found in past, although at least he was able to win on home soil, just like Shane Lowry.
Ross Fisher at 55/1 and Marcel Siem at 40/1 should both give each way backers a good run for there money while it is the pro debut this week of Matthew Fitzpatrick, an outstanding amateur, available at 100/1 to score a famous debut win.
While most punters attention will be on Ryan Moore at Royal Ascot this week I fancy his namesake at 35/1 in The Travelers Championship where he has twice been runner up and finished 7th last year.
Masters Champion Bubba Watson is 12/1 market leadert while on this tight course where scrambling golf will be crucial Zach Johnson at 35/1 and Charley Hoffman at 45/1 look decent each way plays.
Meanwhile, Pinehurst which hosted last week’s US Open for Men last week, stages the Women’s tournament this week and Inbee Park looks the best bet at 8/1.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
