FRENCH NAVY (1.50) returns to the scene of last season’s Group 3 victory at Goodwood and looks a cracking bet to strike it rich in the 32Red Casino Stakes. Godolphin monopolise the event, saddling half of the eight-runner field, and Windhoek, the mount of Kieren Fallon, is sure to prove popular. However, French Navy is proven on soft ground and should be cherry-ripe after two fairly quick runs when chasing home Mull of Killough in the Earl Of Sefton at Newmarket before finding Ascot’s mile trip a bit on the sharp side in third place behind useful Ocean Tempest. This extended 1m 1f test is ideal.
DEBDEBDEB (4.05) can stretch her rivals to breaking point with a powerful front-running performance in the two-mile handicap. Andrew Balding’s mare made a winning return at Bath, spread-eagling the field after kicking for home off the home turn. A 4lb rise seems fair.
SPINATRIX (3.10) has been a grand servant to Michael Dods in the tough sprint division and soft ground at Haydock will be right up her street. She made classy sorts like Jack Dexter and Morache Music pull out the stops last season and Spinatrix will be spot-on for this Listed fillies’ contest on the back of her encouraging reappearance run behind Caledonia Lady at Nottingham earlier this month.
BILIMBI (3.45) could be the answer to a very competitive renewal of the Betfred Silver Bowl. He is up 7lb for whipping the strongly fancied Extra Noble at Musselburgh and that horse ran a cracker last Saturday when third in the London Gold Cup at Newbury. Bilimbi scored with little fuss on soft ground at Yarmouth last back-end and, with Ryan Moore berthed in stall one, the William Haggas representative is primed for a big run.
MISS MACNAMARA (4.00) caused a 25-1 boil-over in the two-mile handicap at Catterick 12 months ago and is strongly fancied to follow up, albeit at less rewarding odds. Martin Todhunter’s mare hacked up over course and distance 18 days ago and will take some stopping.
