Live on Sky Sports 4: Thu 18:00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s WGC – Cadillac Championship tournament
The second World Golf Championship takes place this week at Doral, Miami, a course revamped since it was bought by Donald Trump and although it’s not everybody’s favourite, there can be no denying the excitement it has brought to Golf fans down the years.
There’s a nine million dollar purse on offer for the 69 players doing battle over the 72 holes, which include a remodelled, tougher first, as well as the big risk-reward holes at 15 and 16, now with added water hazards.
The course meanwhile, needs wind to test the best, expect very low scoring if the conditions are still.
Rory Mcllroy should have landed the Honda Classic last week but is nevertheless playing well enough to challenge here and he’s the 15/2 market leader.
Tiger Woods is a hard one to work out but despite withdrawing last week he cannot be totally dismissed if he starts here and the 15/1 on offer at Stan James is more than fair for a multiple winner on the track.
I like the look of Bubba Watson who was runner up here two years ago and looks a decent price at 25/1. Bubba is often a fast starter too and can be backed at a tempting 30/1 to be in front after the first round.
Zach Johnson also looks a bit of value at 35/1 while Keegan Bradley at 30/1 is starting to find a bit of form.
It promises to be a great week with plenty of pointers to the forthcoming Masters, now only five weeks away.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
