Live on Sky Sports 4: Wed: 17:00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s WGC – Accenture Match Play tournament.
Starting on Wednesday, the focus for both tours this week is the lucrative WGC Accenture World Matchplay, which offers huge prize money and also Ryder Cup points as players chase those coveted spots on both teams for September’s scrap at Gleneagles.
Rory Mclroy heads the market at 14/1 but I like the chances of Dustin Johnson, provided he can get past Peter Hanson in the first round.
The American has often started poorly but I feel it could be different this time around as he’s playing some great golf at present and he’s decent value at 20/1.
A lover of Matchplay golf, Ian Poulter is a dangerous opponent and his first round foe Rickie Fowler will not relish the clash so at 33/1 he has to be included in all betting portfolios.
Luke Donald is perhaps over the odds at 50/1 given that he loves it here and should beat out of sorts Matteo Manassero in his opener while 25/1 shot Hunter Mahan is my final selection in an event where there are sure to be shocks.
Like Dustin Johnson, if he can get through his tough first round clash, this time with Gonzalo F Castano in, he has a real opportunity.
Indeed, with no Tiger Woods, Phil Mickleson or Adam Scott in the field, there’s a huge chance for others to make their mark over the five days, with both the semis and final on Sunday.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
