Live on Sky Sports 1: Tues 19.45: Sunderland are 3/1 (bet365) to qualify for the Capital One Cup semi-final at Chelsea’s expense.
The Premier League’s bottom club Sunderland are five points adrift of safety having won just two of their 16 matches this term but the Black Cats have managed to reach the last eight of the Capital One Cup and might be glad of the distraction as they prepare to face Chelsea in the quarter-final.
The Blues won the competition twice during Jose Mourinho’s last stint as manager and as they are Skybet’s joint 3/1 favourites to lift the trophy this term, it’s perhaps not surprising that they’re odds-on at just 4/7 via Coral to ease through to the semi-final stage at the first attempt.
The hosts however, pushed them all the way when going down 4-3 in the pair’s recent league meeting and have held up win in the competition so far so they perhaps shouldn’t be written off so readily, especially on their own patch.
Much-improved under Gus Poyet, Sunderland also performed well in the goalless encounter at West Ham at the weekend and they’re overpriced at 11/2 with bet365 to shade it.
Alternatively, Paddy Power give them a goal start at 6/4 in the handicaps and they’re 17/4 in 888Sport’s ‘Draw No Bet’ market but the Black Cats will be up for it and might be worth a modest interest to cause an upset. They’re 3/1 (bet365) to qualify for the last four.
