Live on Sky Sports 1: Sun 13.30: Newcastle (13/8, bet365) are 17/5 (BetVictor) to beat Sunderland by one in their Premier League derby.
Gus Poyet didn’t exactly make the ideal start to life as Sunderland manager, as his side crashed to a 4-0 reverse at Swansea last weekend but the Uruguayan has an opportunity to immediately endear himself to the Stadium of Light faithful as the Black Cats face Newcastle in a mouth-watering but potentially fiery Tyne-Wear derby showdown.
However, despite home advantage, Sunderland will kick-off as slight outsiders at 19/10 with BetVictor while the Magpies are a 13/8 chance at bet365 to heap more misery on their beleaguered neighbours.
As it’s a derby, a draw will inevitably attract cash at 23/10 (Stan James) but the value is certainly with the visitors here. There’s no doubting that Poyet has a huge job on his hands at Sunderland, that much was clear at the Liberty Stadium a week ago and while Newcastle admittedly are a touch unpredictable, they’ve demonstrated their battling qualities in recent weeks in a fightback at Everton, a victory away to Cardiff and a hard-fought stalemate with ten men against Liverpool.
Alan Pardew’s charges can nick this then, especially if they can start well, because it won’t take long for the home crowd to turn against their team in the circumstances and on that basis a case can be made for a Magpies success by one (17/5, BetVictor).
