Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; 2:20 York: Montaser and 2:45 Downpatrick: Cracking Man. Compare odds and bet.
Having missed the Northumberland Plate due to the rain softened ground Montaser (2:20) is fancied to gain compensation in this afternoon’s John Smith’s Silver Cup at York, with the ground and trip very much in his favour.
David Simcock’s four-year-old was a very ready winner over course-and-distance on reappearance and, having gone up just 5lbs, the Rail Link gelding is taken to supplement that success en route to a crack at the Ebor next month. The selection was trading at 3/1 with Boylesports this morning.
Over at Downpatrick Cracking Man (2:45) is taken to make a winning hurdles debut in the opening maiden, despite being off the track for more than a year.
A full-brother to the smart dual-purpose performer Steps To Freedom, the Statue Of Liberty gelding looked very promising when bolting up in a Wetherby bumper last June, before failing to justify short odds at Down Royal just 15 days later.
As he’s been off since, it is safe to assume all was not right on that occasion and the well-regarded five-year-old makes his debut over jumps in a very winnable contest. If handling the quicker ground (Steps To Freedom relishes a decent surface) he should be difficult to beat if fully wound-up.
Saturday’s selections:
2:20 York: Montaser; 3/1 Boylesports
2:45 Downpatrick: Cracking Man; 6/4 bet365
