Paul Ferguson has two selections from York for us on Wednesday; Liber Nauticus in the 2.45 and Cockney Sparrow at 3.50. Compare odds and bet.
With the news that Derby hopeful Telescope will miss the Dante tomorrow, Sir Michael Stoute could do with a timely tonic and Liber Nauticus (2:45) ought to provide just that boost in this afternoon’s Group 3 Musidora Stakes.
The Azamour filly was an impressive winner of a Goodwood maiden on her sole start at two, staying on in the style of a very promising sort and, given she is a general 5/1 shot for the Oaks, connections will be disappointed if he relinquishes her 100% record here.
The same connections took this back in 2002 with the top-class Islington and the stable also took the contest in 2006 with Short Skirt. Ryan Moore’s mount was trading at 4/5 Coral.co.uk
Later on the card Cockney Sparrow (3:50) should go well on her return to the Flat, following a very productive time of it over hurdles.
A winner three times over timber, the four-year-old looked a filly at the top of her game when winning a handicap at Aintree off a mark of 130 and she returns to the level on a reasonable looking 78.
Given the progression she has made since joining the John Quinn yard, she could prove ahead of that mark this summer and, if the rain arrives overnight, conditions ought to be spot on. Available at 9/2 with Paddy Power, she looks a sound each-way play.
Wenesday’s selections:
2:45 York: Liber Nauticus; 4/5 Coral.co.uk
3:50 York: Cockney Sparrow (each-way); 9/2 Paddy Power
