Former Swindon boss Paulo Di Canio is BetVictor’s early 6/1 favourite to become the next manager of Premier League strugglers Reading.
The fiery Italian left the Robins in February and has attracted some early cash to replace Brian McDermott, who parted company with the Royals after a run of four successive defeats, culminating in Saturday’s damaging loss to Aston Villa.
At Stan James, Roberto Di Matteo was the initial front runner at 4/1 before drifting to 11/2, although the former Chelsea boss is a 10/1 shot at BetVictor while Stan James post 14/1 against Mark Hughes and have seen ex-Southampton chief Nigel Adkins backed in from 12/1 to 11/2 in the early exchanges.
“After losing Saturday’s six-pointer against Aston Villa, it’s easy to see why Reading board have acted but with only nine matches remaining the Royals need to make an appointment quickly,” said Betrescue spokesman Chris Hutcheon.
“As there are several decent managers currently out of work, there should be someone in place sooner rather than later and punters clearly think Di Canio achieved enough in his short time at Swindon to be considered a serious candidate, although Nigel Adkins will surely find a job soon too given his seemingly harsh dismissal after an impressive tenure at Saints.”
