Another fairly quiet day on Tuesday and that could be theme for the next couple of weeks, at least in the midweek in any case. Many of the better jumps horses will now be being readied for a trip to Aintree, while the Flat has yet to get going properly.
Exeter stages the day’s only National Hunt card and the KIP Kealey Novices’ Chase looks a match on paper between Jump City and Dare Me (3:00) who can make the most of the 7lb he receives from Paul Nicholls’ Newton Abbot winner.
Formerly a smart bumper horse with Philip Hobbs, the nine-year-old was two from two over hurdles during his novice campaign back in the autumn of 2010, when twice scoring here in the colours of Trevor Hemmings.
Now in the care of Venetia Williams, the selection has raced with credit in defeat so far in three chases (fell behind Simonsig on the other start) and put up his best effort when runner-up at Ludlow on debut.
Third here last time on heavy ground, connections will probably be hoping that conditions dry out slightly and he deserves to win a race of this nature on what he has shown to date.
