Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Thursday; Ruben Cotter in the Wincanton 2.30 and Big Water in the Carlisle 3.15. Compare odds and bet.
Paul Nicholls has his string in fine form, saddling four winners last Saturday and was three from three with his runners this week on Monday and Tuesday, and the champion trainer saddles several interesting runners at his local track Wincanton on Thursday.
The pick of his runners would appear to be Ruben Cotter (2:30) in the 3m1f novices’ chase, after making a winning debut over fences Doncaster last month.
He stayed on strongly to beat the useful Vintage Star that day when clearly relishing the better ground. The seven-year-old was trading at 8-11 with Paddy Power last night.
Later on the card, keep an eye on Nicholls’ runner in the bumper Pure Oxygen, who also carries the Graham Roach silks. He’s a Presenting half-brother to Best Mate and looks the part on breeding, so pay attention to him with the future in mind.
Up at Carlisle, Alan Swinbank’s Big Water (3:15) is taken to get off the mark at the second time of asking over hurdles in the extended 2m3f national hunt novices’ hurdle.
A dual bumper winner, he went on to finish midfield in the Aintree bumper behind The New One and made an encouraging debut over hurdles when runner-up to subsequent Morebattle Hurdle winner Duke Of Navan at Kelso.
The step up in trip should suit and the son of Saffron Walden gets a handy 7lbs off his two main market rivals this afternoon.
Thursday’s selections:
2:30 Wincanton: Ruben Cotter; 4/9 Betvictor
3:15 Carlisle: Big Water; 2/1 Betvictor
