Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Sunday; Dalavar in the 3.30 and Darley Sun in the 5.00 both at Huntingdon. Compare odds and bet.
Huntingdon’s extended 2m5f handicap hurdle looks a competitive event in which several unexposed novices catch the eye, none more so than Alan King’s Dalavar (3:30) despite the fact he has been well beaten on all three starts over timber.
Last time the five-year-old ran well for a long way in a competitive novice hurdle at Newbury and his bumper form on better ground is well worth a second look.
Runner-up to The New One on debut at Warwick, he also chased home a useful sort in The Romford Pele at Bangor on good ground last February. Runner-up that day Imperial Leader has developed in to a smart novice hurdler, too, and in fact finished in front of the selection at Newbury last time.
Available at 5/1 overnight, Robert Thornton’s mount is worth supporting each-way with 16 going to post and bookmakers paying ¼ odds to 4 places. Another to note in the same contest is Polly Peachum (8/1 last night) as she, too, has some smart bumper form to her name.
Later on the card, smart ex-Flat performer Darley Sun (5:00) can get off the mark at the second time of asking over hurdles. John Ferguson’s seven-year-old made a pleasing debut at Market Rasen last month and has less on his plate this afternoon. The better ground will help and it’s not hard to imagine Denis O’Regan arriving late on the scene with plenty of horse underneath him.
Sunday’s selections:
3:30 Huntingdon Dalavar (each-way)
5:00 Huntingdon Darley Sun
