Live on ITV: Sat 12.45: Everton are 1/2 favourites at Skybet to beat Wigan in the FA Cup but it’s set to be a close affair at Goodison Park.
David Moyes insists that the Premier League and the FA Cup are currently of equal importance but with a top four finish seemingly out of reach and a summer departure from Goodison Park looking increasingly likely for the Everton boss, it’s hard not to feel that the Scot would want to secure some silverware, not least to leave a legacy after over a decade in charge.
There’s plenty riding on the cup quarter final against Wigan then and bookies think the Toffees will handle the pressure, Skybet installing them as 1/2 favourites to reach the last four at the first attempt.
The Latics are a 7/1 shot at Coral to deny the Blues a trip to Wembley and it’s 18/5 via BetVictor for the tie to require a replay but after Wigan were brushed aside so contemptuously by Liverpool at the weekend, their relegation battle is probably at the forefront of their minds so Moyes’ men should have the edge.
Nevertheless, Everton’s two matches against Roberto Martinez’s charges so far this term have both been tough and with the Latics keen to respond to Saturday’s 4-0 mauling at the hands of the Reds, it looks set to be a tight affair.
BetVictor rate the Toffees at 17/2 to defeat Wigan 2-1 for the second time this season, another victory sealed on the back of a level first period is a 16/5 chance at Paddy Power and it’s 11/4 (bet365) for a home win by a one-goal margin.
The Blues’ lack of clean sheets suggests both teams will find the net, an outcome Stan James chalk up at even money and the same firm post 8/11 against the clash yielding three or more goals. The first of those is 11/2 courtesy of bet365 to come from Marouane Fellaini, who broke the deadlock against Reading at the weekend.
