Live on Sky Sports 1: Wed: 19:45. The Daily Record’s Mr Fixit Paul Jain is forecasting a comfortable win for Scotland against Estonia. Compare odds. Match Preview
THE only way is up for Scotland as they launch another new era at Aberdeen on Wednesday.
Former cap stars Gordon Strachan, Mark McGhee and Stuart McCall have been handed the task of lifting a nation that’s fallen to an all-time low in the world rankings.
Victory in a friendly against Estonia won’t have the Tartan Army rushing to look out their passports to Rio but will give some encouragement to Strachan and his cohorts.
Scotland have no chance of making the World Cup finals after a disastrous start under Craig Levein but should beat Estonia and are 4-7 at the likes of bet365, Paddy Power and Ladbrokes to do so. The Baltic nation are 13-2 at BetVictor with the draw 3-1 at bet365.
Scotland boast two strikers scoring freely in England and they could team up to form a potent strikeforce.
Sunderland star Steven Fletcher is likely to lead the line and he’s 11-2 at Coral to net the opener and 11-8 at BetVictor to score at anytime.
Blackburn’s Jordan Rhodes could also start if Strachan goes with two up front but may be used as a sub. He is also 11-2 at Coral to break the deadlock and 6-4 at unibet to score.
Fletcher will be hoping to impress after seeing his career stall under Levein and is 3-1 with William Hill to strike in a Scotland win. Rhodes and Fletcher are 5-1 with William Hill to both find the target.
Estonia have been on a downer since losing 5-1 on aggregate to Republic of Ireland in the Euro 2012 play-offs and have lost three of their first four World Cup qualifiers.
Scotland can win this comfortably if Strachan gets the right reaction and I fancy them to score two or more at 4-5 with Skybet.
An early goal will get fans on side and the first goal to be before half-time pays 2-5 at Ladbrokes.
Estonia don’t score many, with their 1-0 win against Andorra being indicative of form, so the most likely scoreline is 2-0 Scotland (13-2, BetVictor) or 3-0 (13-1, BetVictor).
To win to nil the Scots are 11-8 at Ladbrokes and Skybet.
