Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Monday; Rock On Ruby in the Doncaster 3.00. Compare odds and bet.
We’re in for a rare treat for a Monday today, with Doncater staging the 32Red Hurdle, a replacement for Saturday’s Contenders Hurdle that was lost due to the abandonment of the hurdle races at Sandown.
With just four runners going to post and the ground drying out, the improving Darlan is possibly best equipped to cope with things if it should turn tactical, but he was trading at 8-11 last night and that seems pretty short.
He’s taking on an impressive ‘Fighting Fifth’ winner in Countrywide Flame who was actually sent off 6-4F when Darlan won the Christmas Hurdle impressively and, of course, he faces the current Champion in Rock On Ruby (3:00) who looks worth siding with at the prices (2-1 this morning at Paddy Power).
Harry Fry’s eight-year-old ran really well on his only start so far this term, when he looked in need of the run in third behind Zarkandar and Grandouet in the International Hurdle in December.
He too will appreciate the drying ground and, though he would appreciate a truly run race, Noel Fehily gave him a peach of a ride when winning the Champion last March and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him make the running if nothing wants to go on. If he gets a soft lead, he could just take a bit of pegging back.
Either way, the selection is currently rated 4lb superior to the market leader and, with such a disparity in the prices, I’m siding with proven form over potential on this occasion.
Monday’s selection:
3:00 Doncaster: Rock On Ruby (2/1 Paddy Power)
