Sponsors Ladbrokes are offering a market leading 9/4 for Phil Taylor to win his 16th World Darts Championship following the draw.
The Power was stunned by Dave Chisnall at the second round stage last time around but Ladbrokes make the recent Players Championship victor their favourite to come back and win the competition for the first time since 2010.
In-form Dutchman Michael Van Gerwen is hot on Taylor’s heels in Ladbrokes’ betting at 4/1 having been a 66/1 shot at the end of October while defending champion Adrian Lewis is a top price of 14/1 and Raymond van Barneveld is third favourite at 10/1, alongside Simon Whitlock.
Taylor and Lewis however, aren’t expected to have any trouble in the first round as they come up against Michael Mansell and Gino Vos respectively, Ladbrokes making them 1/50 and 1/16 to ease through.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes told Betrescue: “This is one of the most wide open Championship’s in recent years but the one person we’re keen to avoid is the flying Dutchman, Michael Van Gerwen who’s in fantastic form.”
“We’re happy to take on the big guns and that’s why we’re best price about Taylor and Lewis,” she added.
