Live on Skysports 2: Sat 17.20: Barnsley (6/4, bet365) can beat Sheffield Wednesday in the big derby clash at the foot of the Championship.
With both sides languishing in the bottom three, the South Yorkshire derby showdown between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday could hardly be bigger, especially as there’s a sense that Owls’ boss Dave Jones’ job is on the line.
The pressure on the pair to pick up a result is intense and that is only magnified by the presence of the television cameras at Oakwell, where the Tykes are slight favourites at 6/4 with bet365 and Stan James price a Wednesday triumph at 15/8.
Inevitably, the stalemate will be well backed at 5/2 via BetVictor, as it is in all derby contests while cash is also set to come in for a 2-2 scoreline at 14/1 (William Hill) as well as Ladbrokes’ 5/1 for scores to be level at the end of each half.
However, Keith Hill’s troops were much improved last week as they pulled off a shock by nicking a point at high-flying Leicester while confidence in the Owls camp couldn’t be lower after seven successive defeats so it pays to side with the hosts here.
Cardiff’s hundred percent home record remains intact after ten matches on their own patch and it’s hard to see them relinquishing it against rock bottom Peterborough, although it won’t surprise punters to learn that Betfred’s 4/11 is the best price for a Bluebirds triumph.
Better value are the team hot on City’s heels at the Championship summit, Crystal Palace. Ian Holloway’s men have stuttered a touch of late but up against goal-shy Birmingham at St Andrews, they can get back in the groove. Coral quote them at 8/5.
