Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Monday; Pendra in the Plumpton 12:40 and Saved By The Bell in the Kempton 3.20. Compare odds and bet.
Impressive when making a winning hurdles debut over course-and-distance four weeks ago Pendra (12:40) should be very hard to beat in his bid to follow up under a 7lb penalty in the opener at Plumpton.
The well-bred chestnut won a Huntingdon bumper in style during Cheltenham Festival week and he maintained his 100% record when easily scoring by an easy 5 lengths here last month.
The third, fourth and fifth have been well beaten since, so the form doesn’t amount to a great deal, but it was hard not to be impressed by the performance and I suspect connections will be disappointed if he relinquishes his unbeaten run today.
For those interested in back-end Flat contests on the all-weather Saved By The Bell (3:20) sets a fair standard in the first division of the mile maiden at Kempton.
Brian Meehan’s Teofilo colt cost 100,000euros and was entered in the Champagne Stakes when sixth on debut, before improving to finish a close second at Sandown in September. The winner Flying Officer failed to advertise the form in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes, but the selection still remains a winner waiting to happen.
Martin Lane’s mount carries the famous white silks and black cap of Michael Buckley, more familiar with Nicky Henderson’s jumpers such as Finian’s Rainbow, and it could be significant that he runs here as the owner likes a winner over jumps at this venue.
Monday’s selection:
12:40 Plumpton: Pendra; 4/6 bet365
3:20 Kempton: Saved By The Bell; 13/8 Skybet
