Live on Skysports 2: Sat 12.45: Arsenal are evens (Ladbrokes) to beat Spurs in their Premier League derby clash but the draw stands out.
Arsenal go into the North London derby against arch-rivals Spurs as even money favourites with Ladbrokes but the Gunners’ results and performances over the last month or so do little to justify that kind of quote.
If you discount the 7-5 extra-time success in a crazy Capital One Cup tie at Reading, Arsene Wenger’s side have managed just one victory in seven in all competitions and that was a somewhat fortunate 1-0 home triumph against rock-bottom QPR.
Their only other three-point haul at the Emirates came against struggling Southampton in mid-September and with the Arsenal defence far from water tight at present, they’re way too risky a bet in this one.
For their part, Tottenham are wobbling a touch themselves, so they make for little appeal at 3/1 via Paddy Power but they almost nabbed a point at Man City on Sunday and have won at Old Trafford this term so Andre Villas-Boas’ troops are more than capable of getting something against their neighbours.
Bet365 post an enticing 11/4 against the stalemate and in what could be a goal-laden affair, BetVictor’s 13/1 for it to finish two-each isn’t without appeal. The last four renewals of this fixture, with the Gunners at home, have seen the net bulge a remarkable 23 times while hosts have looked vulnerable at the back of late so it’s perhaps not surprising to see that the best price for a match tally of four goals is William Hill’s 13/8.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of candidates to bag the first, the stand out pair being Stan James’ 7/1 shot Lukas Podolski and at the other end Gareth Bale at 12/1 (BetVictor).
Recommended Bets:
Arsenal and Tottenham to draw – 11/4 (bet365)
