Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Wednesday; Sizing Gold in the 14.15 at Fairyhouse. Compare odds and bet.
The best of the domestic action this afternoon is the 2m novices’ chase at Warwick, where Cantlow carries the silks of JP McManus for the first time and faces Hazy Tom, who is surely better than he showed on debut at Towcester last month.
The trip is short of Cantlow’s best and with Hazy Tom needing to bounce back to form it looks a race to watch, while Sin Bin is of some interest at Chepstow for Paul Nicholls and Trevor Hemmings.
A dual bumper winner, the six-year-old hasn’t been tested on ground anywhere near as soft as this however and, as he didn’t do anything particularly quickly at Fontwell last time, a watching brief is also suggested here.
For the day’s sole selection it’s off over to Fairyhouse, where recent course-and-distance winner Seefood sets a fair standard in the EBF Novice Hurdle, but he may be facing a tall order in trying to concede 6lbs to Sizing Gold (2:15) who has been chucked in at the deep end by Henry De Bromhead.
That shows how highly regarded the five-year-old is and he showed a decent level of form in bumpers last term, firstly chasing home the smart Make Your Mark before beating another nice sort in Defy Logic at Navan in February.
A double at Punchestown (Buckers Bridge and Clonbannan Lad) last week shows the stable to be in fine form and the son of Flemensfirth should relish this 2m4f trip on debut.
Andrew Lynch’s mount looks an exciting recruit and it taken to score at the first time of asking, despite the fact that he could have been found a much easier option in maiden company. He was trading at 9/4 with Boylesports last night.
Wednesday’s selection:
2:15 Fairyhouse Sizing Gold
