Former Talksport man Charlie McCann marks your card for Saturday with a trio of tips at Ascot, Newmarket and Redcar.
There is a cracking card at Ascot on Saturday and, although there is rain forecast, the filly Mince (3.05) must take the beating in the Bengough Stakes as long as the ground doesn’t turn soft by post time. The selection has twice broken the track record on fast ground this term and will take over the mantle from the recently retired Bated Breath at Beckhampton next year in the major sprints for trainer Roger Charlton.
Ghurair (2.50 Newmarket) gets the nod in the Tattersalls Millions Trophy at Newmarket; the selection looked potentially top-class on debut and was only beaten a length at Goodwood next time in a Group 2 when not handling the track. The selection holds an entry in both the Dewhurst and Racing Post Trophy and must go close although likely favourite Havana Gold, who was an easy winner over C&D last time, has the best form on offer going into the race.
It is Redcar’s big day of the year with the Listed Two-year-old Trophy their highlight; Body And Soul just about got six furlongs in a valuable sales race at York when last seen in August and gets into the race with 8st 1lb; she is 6lb better off with the winner Hototo and can reverse the form on the revised terms.
Thousand Stars is the class act on show at Tipperary but I am not deserting Rebel Fitz (3.40 Sun) now and the selection, who won the Galway Hurdle in the summer, gets 5lbs from the Willie Mullins grey who obviously gets further than 2m but did win a Grade One at the minimum distance last November.
