Andy Murray has been the subject of a patriotic punt to be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year and is 5/2 (Ladbrokes) for the gong.
Following his US Open success and his subsequent homecoming celebration in Dunblane, the 25-year-old has been well backed in his native Scotland to win the public vote, forcing the ‘Magic Sign’ to clip the Olympic champion to 5/2 from 3/1
Tour de France victor Bradley Wiggins remains odds-on favourite at 8/11 while double Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah has drifted to 5/1 and the trio are 4/7 to occupy the top three places.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes told Betrescue.com said, “Murray’s magical summer has quite rightly captured all of our hearts and his homecoming in Dunblane has seen thousands of proud patriotic punters pile into their boy’s chances. As far as the betting is concerned”, she added, “it’s a done deal for a podium finish for Wiggins, Murray and Farah.”
