Live on ITV4 & ESPN: Thurs 18.00: Liverpool are 17/10 (BetVictor) to beat Young Boys in the Europa League and Jonjo Shelvey could strike.
Still winless in the Premier League, Liverpool have been ticking along fairly nicely in the Europa League and they start the group stages with a trip to Switzerland where they tackle Young Boys.
BetVictor make the Reds the slightest of favourites at 17/10 to overcome the Swiss outfit, Skybet’s 19/10 outsiders and that looks about right given that Brendan Rodgers has named an inexperienced squad with Sunday’s titanic tussle against Manchester United in mind.
Indeed, with most of Liverpool’s big guns not making the trip, it’s a tough to call clash and the Reds are possibly too much of a risk in the match betting. If anything, the draw is the most enticing outcome, at 23/10 with Skybet but prudent punters will leave that market well alone and head to the anytime goalscorer market where there’s an appealing 9/2 shot courtesy of Paddy Power.
Rodgers has decided to include Jonjo Shelvey in the travelling party and the 20-year-old, if selected in the starting eleven, will definitely look to get forward from midfield at the Stade de Suisse. Moreover, with the Reds set to field a youthful attack, there’s no obvious source of goals up front so Shelvey could well pop up with one at a big price.
Newcastle will also make changes for their clash with Maritimo and bearing that in mind, bet365 make them underdogs at 5/2 but they looked threatening in the second half at Everton and shouldn’t be written off in Portugal.
Recommended Bets:
Jonjo Shelvey to score at any time – 9/2 (Paddy Power)
