Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Thursday; Rebel Fitz in the 4.50 (Galw) and Biographer in the 7.45 (Ffos). Compare odds.
It’s nice to see our ante-post Galway Hurdle selection Rebel Fitz (4:50) making the line-up in this afternoon’s feature handicap and, having put him up at 16/1 previously, it’s also nice that he was trading at half those odds overnight.
The seven-year-old won a decent contest at Tipperary 11 days ago (the day I put him up each-way) so arrives here at the top of his game and, having earlier won on the Flat and having won at this track in the past, he has plenty going for him.
On the downside, Davy Russell’s mount picked up a 6lb penalty for that recent success and the ground will also be slightly softer than ideal. He does, however, remain a horse of some potential and he has the class to win a race of this nature before going chasing.
Of the dangers on the day, Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh have to be respected with Drive Time, who might well want further but will relish any softening of the ground, while novice Run With The Wind is an outsider to consider in a wide-open affair.
After a couple of unsuccessful days at Goodwood, I’m leaving the Sussex downs alone today and heading to Ffos Las for the day’s other selection Biographer (7:45) who is given another chance in the 1m4f handicap.
The Montjeu colt, who holds an entry in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, ran on really well at Lingfield last time once the penny dropped and, though he has been upped 3lbs for that defeat, he is worth keeping the faith with on this more galloping track.
David Lanigan’s three-year-old again takes on his elders here and, if he is to develop in to a Group class performer, he really needs to be taking care of these rivals off 88. Available at 7/2 early on Wednesday evening, I expect him to be trading a fair bit shorter come post time.
Thursday’s selections:
4:50 Galway Rebel Fitz (advised ante-post e/w 16/1)
7:45 Ffos Las Biographer
