Paul Ferguson has two selections at Goodwood on Friday; Gatewood in the 2.00 and Gamilati in the 4.50. Compare odds.
Though Trade Commissioner sadly misses this afternoon’s Betfred Mile, it could still be yet another fruitful day for John Gosden and William Buick, who can kick off the day by landing the Group 3 Coutts Glorious Stakes with Gatewood (2:00) who has been very kind to us so far this season.
The Galileo colt has won valuable handicaps off 86, 91 and latterly at Royal Ascot off 98 and, while he has to step forward once again now he enters Group company for the first time, he arrives here at the top of his game.
The four-year-old only got up to win by a neck on each of the last two occasions, but his victories thus far this term have hinted that he still has plenty more to offer and we simply don’t know how far he can progress.
Available at 11/4 with Bet Victor early on Thursday evening, he can land this and, in doing so, can set up a crack at the Melbourne Cup in November.
The pair then team up with Gregorian in the RSA Thoroughbred Stakes and he looks a worthy market leader based on his third to Most Improved in the St James’s Palace Stakes and he finished runner-up in a Group 1 in France last time.
This is, however, a warm Group 3 with plenty holding claims so the second bet on the card is left to the Godolphin filly Gamilati (4:50) who looks the class act in the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes.
The three-year-old shed her maiden tag in the Group 2 Cherry Hinton at Newmarket last July and was most recently seen winning twice at Meydan, latterly in the UAE 1,000 Guineas back in February.
The lay-off isn’t a big concern from this stable, but the wide draw in stall 14 is far from ideal it must be said. However, trust Frankie Dettori to steer the right passage on the filly who looks the one in this race who should have aspirations to go on to bigger and better things. She was available at 6/4 with Paddy Power overnight.
Friday’s selections:
2:00 Glorious Goodwood Gatewood
4:50 Glorious Goodwood Gamilati
