Live on Skysports 1 & 3: Thu 10.30 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Scottish Open and the John Deere Classic. Selections.
Luke Donald heads the market at 8/1 with Betfred to retain his Scottish Open title he won over 54 holes last year.
It is hoped this year’s event will go the distance and I fancy Padraig Harrington at 16/1 (Ladbrokes) to come out as a winner come Sunday evening. Harrington is approaching his best again and looks sure to be a factor at Lytham next week but is worth siding with here at decent odds.
Ernie Els looks good each way value at 25/1 with Paddy Power who, like Ladbrokes, are paying 6 places at Castle Stuart this week. Matteo Mannessero has one last chance to get into next week’s Open Championship and at 60/1 via bet365 looks the best of the big priced outsiders this week.
Steve Stricker has made the John Deere Classic his own over last 3 years and is 7/1 to make it four in a row, courtesy of Boylesports. He has an obvious chance and will be hard to beat whilst I like Zach Johnson at 14/1 with Coral.
Nick Watney has had a quiet season but should go well here at 22/1 (BetVictor) while Ben Crane, at 66/1 with Ladbrokes, is surely due a win soon and looks over the odds to strike here.
Paddy Power have already advertized 7 places in next week’s Open Championship at Lytham. Let’s hope more bookies follow ahead of next week’s 3rd Major of the season.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
