Alan Thomson, the former Racing Editor at the Daily Record, puts up five tips to consider at York, Sandown and Bath. View selections below.
WITH Royal Ascot just around the corner, this weekend’s racing has a distinctly moderate look about it, but TULLIUS (3.45) is worth an bit extra at York. Twice a winner on soft ground already this season, at Newmarket and Windsor, Andrew Balding’s charge is ready for this step into Listed company against five pretty exposed rivals. Tullius should be able to concede 3lb to principal danger Dance And Dance.
With the track riding heavy at Sandown the quality horses have been chased away, but there are a couple of interesting sorts on the Betfred-sponsored card. TAKEITFROMALADY (2.20) has proven ability on testing ground, having chased home useful Fast Or Free at Newmarket last Saturday, while MOHANAD (5.30) will appreciate a slight drop in grade after finishing on the heels of the placed horses in the staying handicap won by Monterey at HQ.
On an insipid card at Bath my first recommendation is SHANNON SPREE (4.50). Richard Hannon’s filly has been keeping good company at Salisbury and Nottingham on her last two starts and this is a slightly easier assignment. Hugo Palmer’s Wolverhampton scorer Talk Of The North looks the danger.
Secondly, RYDEDALE LASS (2.10) should be able to follow up her Brighton success. She romped clear of a moderate bunch in the style of an improving filly and probably has Border Abby to beat.
