Paul Ferguson has two selections for us today; Fine Parchment in the Southwell 15.20 and Hi George in the Kelso 17:45. Compare odds and bet
If Southwell passes an early morning inspection Fine Parchment (3:20) can land the feature Fraser Brown 1894 FA Cup Winners Handicap Chase.
Charlie Mann’s nine-year-old hasn’t won since taking the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury last March, but he returned to the Berkshire track to finish fourth in this year’s renewal two starts back and this represents a huge drop in class.
Earlier in the season he ran a blinder against recent Cheltenham scorer Hector’s Choice and, if he’s anywhere near his best, he can defy top-weight and score for Sam Thomas. The selection was trading at 3/1 this morning at Paddy Power
Up at Kelso, Nicky Richards’s Find A Key will be all the rage in the opening maiden hurdle but, at the likely prices, a chance is taken on Hi George (5:45) each-way (10/1 bet365).
Malcolm Jefferson’s four-year-old shaped well in a couple of junior bumpers before getting off the mark at Doncaster in January when he relished the step up to 2m½f.
Disappointing last time, when only fourth behind Champion Bumper second New Year’s Eve at Market Rasen, he’s been given plenty of time to recover and remains an interesting prospect for this hurdling debut.
The selection is a half-brother to stable-mate Attaglance, successful in handicap hurdles at Cheltenham and Aintree this spring.
Wednesday’s selections:
3:20 Southwell: Fine Parchment (3/1 Paddy Power)
5:45 Kelso: HI George (10/1 bet365 each-way)
