Paul Ferguson has two selections from Aintree on Friday; Sleeping City (5.55) and Distime (8.15). Compare odds and bet.
Some cracking action on the Flat this afternoon from York, Newbury and Newmarket but, due to the rain we’ve had of late, Aintree stages a cracking card for the time of the year this evening and today’s two selections come from my local track.
The 2m1f novices’ hurdle looks a cracker, with Sir Johnson bringing high-class bumper form to the table (mid-division in the Champion Bumper and third here on Grand National day), while Hi George provided us with a nice 10/1 winner a couple of weeks ago. He is one of four winners in the line-up, but another chance is given to Sleeping City (5:55) who was unlucky not to score at Newton Abbot when last seen in March.
A faller at the last when it looked like he’d mastered the useful Swing Bowler, he had earlier chased home Darlan at Kempton in November and Aintree’s tight track on decent ground look sure to play to his strengths.
In contrast, likely favourite Sir Johnson run as if he will need a trip over hurdles during his bumpers, so a chance is taken with Victor Dartnall’s runner. If big enough on first show, he is worth backing each-way in a warm contest.
Later on another each-way selection is Distime (8:15) in one of two very competitive handicap hurdles on the card.
John Quinn’s charge has disappointed on his last two starts, when beaten favourite in handicaps, but he remains potentially well treated and at the prices I’m prepared to give him one more chance on a track where he run his best race to date over hurdles.
Runner-up to the smart Barbatos here last October, he goes well fresh as he showed that day and also when winning a point-to-point after a lay-off the October before.
Good ground suits and the track clearly plays to his strengths, so he is worth an each-way interest with Bet365 offering 14/1 overnight.
Friday’s selections:
5:55 Aintree Sleeping City
8:15 Aintree Distime
