Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Tuesday and considers; Prompter in the 20.10 at Southwell and Caolaneoin in the 17.30 at Killarney. Compare odds and bet.
JP McManus paid 78,000gns to buy smart Flat performer Prompter (8:10) out of Michael Bell’s yard in October and, assuming his jumping is up to scratch on this hurdling debut, he can land the 2m maiden at Southwell tonight.
The son of Motivator only won once from 16 starts on the level, when beating last year’s Northumberland Plate her Tominator in a Chester maiden as a two-year-old, but he showed smart handicap form in defeat, including when last seen at York in August when he finished third of a mark of 97.
At his best with cut in the ground, he appeals as the type to take to the National Hunt game and can make a winning start for Jonjo O’Neill and AP McCoy.
Over in Ireland Killarney’s three-day May Festival comes to an end this evening and the opening beginners’ chase is a cracking contest, with several interesting runners.
A couple of those towards the head of the betting have chasing experience to their names already, but there are a few potential smart recruits to fences running here, including the Henry De Bromhead-trained pair of Darwins Fox and Absolutelyfantastic.
Despite the competitiveness of the contest, a chance is taken on Caolaneoin (5:30) who did us a good turn when winning a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse in January.
Since then, the six-year-old finished third behind the smart Trifolium, before twice finishing fourth over 2m4f, a trip that appeared to stretch his stamina.
The drop back in trip is in his favour and, though the strong traveller has to prove his ability to cope with this quicker ground, he looks every inch a chaser in the making and could leave his hurdles form behind over fences.
Tuesday’s selections:
5:30 Killarney Caolaneoin
8:10 Southwell Prompter
