Fergie’s Backing Killyglen At 4.15

Paul Ferguson fancies 201/ shot Killyglen in the Grand National at 4.15 pm. Compare odds and bet

With the ground drying out all the time, conditions have now gone against Giles Cross who was heavily backed earlier in the week and, with Nicky Henderson’s string firing on Friday, it is no surprise that Shakalakaboomboom has been well backed overnight.

As I said in my original preview last week, he looks sure to go well with the conditions in his favour and having taken well to the fences in last year’s Topham, so he’s one for any shortlist.

However, preference is for Killyglen who was travelling strongly when falling four out last year and he returns on a 5lb lower mark and after an un-interrupted preparation.

A winner on the Mildmay course for Howard Johnson at the meeting three years ago, he has been brought along steadily this season and, after having a minor wind-op after his fourth at Cheltenham in December, he won with plenty in hand at Down Royal.

Granted the luck in running what is required for any National winner, he can go close for Robbie ‘Puppy’ Power, who won the race aboard Silver Birch in 2007, and he can reward each-way support at 20/1.

Cheltenham Festival runner-up Becauseicouldntsee (20/1) and Always Right (28/1) are another pair to consider on the drying ground.
