Following the final declarations for the John Smith’s Grand National, Synchronised heads the betting of the field of 40 at 7/1 with Betfred.
Synchronised, winner of the Gold Cup, is aiming to become the first top-weight winner of the National since Red Rum in 1974 and also become the first Gold Cup/Grand National double winner for the same season since Golden Miller did it in 1934.
“It’s going to take a momentous gamble to displace Synchronised at the head of the Grand National market and with AP McCoy on board, he’s certain to be the most popular choice on betting slips up and down the country,” said Betfred spokesman George Primarolo.
Giles Cross, Junior and West End Rocker are all next in the market at 12/1 whilst it’s 14/1 bar. Betfred make it an 11/1 chance that either Nina Carberry or Katie Walsh become the first female jockey to win the John Smith’s Grand National whilst it’s 7/4 that the winner is trained in Ireland.
