Attention turns to the flat as Premio Loco is Stan James’ 3/1 favourite in Saturday’s Winter Derby taking place at Lingfield.
Out of 20 entries for the Group 3 race, Premier Loco heads the market from 6/1 Junoob.
Stan James’s spokesman Rory Jiwani says, “This looks set to be a high-quality renewal with Chris Wall’s Premio Loco the early market leader despite carrying a five-pound Group 2 penalty. Next in the betting is Junoob who made a big impression in winning the Winter Derby trial over course and distance for Tom Dascombe at the end of February.
“Other interesting contenders are Richard Hannon’s Cai Shen who was runner-up behind Sagramor in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last summer, and the mare Sooraah who won a handicap at Meydan last month with jockey Ryan Moore getting the leg up again for William Haggas.
“Richard Fahey is the only trainer with more than one entry and he saddles former listed winner Myplacelater and Our Joe Mac.”
