At the halfway point of the Cheltenham festival, the bookies are up after both Grands Crus and Sizing Europe failed to win, Betfred say.
The opening two results of the day had the bookies sweating as the well-backed favourite Simonsig romped home in the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle just after 5/1 jolly Teaforthree had justified market support in the National Hunt Chase.
“We feared the worst after the first two favourites went in but results were much kinder after that and the layers are definitely on the front foot at the halfway stage,” said Betfred spokesman George Primarolo
Barry Geraghty stole the show with a fantastic treble and he is well in front as 1/6 fav to be Cheltenham Festival Top Jockey. Ruby Walsh is next at 5/1 while Jason Maguire is the only other quote at 16’s.
Cheltenham Festival Top Jockey – Betfred bet: 1/6 B Geraghty, 5 R Walsh, 16 J Maguire.
