Sun 12.00: William Hill’s 11/10 favourites Birmingham look set to edge a tight Championship encounter against Cardiff at St Andrews.
Cardiff’s run of just one win in seven is threatening to de-rail their bid for a top six finish while a similar sequence for Birmingham is having the same effect on their chances. Subsequently, the pair’s St Andrews showdown is hugely significant and it’s the hosts that bookies expect will strike a crucial blow in the race for the play-off places, William Hill installing Chris Hughton’s troops as 11/10 favourites to send the Bluebirds home empty-handed.
Malky Mackay’s charges are a 3/1 shot at Blue Square while BetVictor post 5/2 against a stalemate and it’s 9/1 courtesy of Stan James to finish goalless, prices that could attract cash given that only goal difference separates the two sides in the Championship table.
Nevertheless, the home side are strong on their own patch, where they have lost just once this season and they’ll be in determined mood as they seek to bounce back from the 4-1 defeat to Portsmouth in which they felt they were on the wrong end of a few dubious refereeing decisions.
Birmingham can edge a tight affair then, strengthening the case for Ladbrokes’ 3/1 marked against a Blues success by a one-goal margin and for the more ambitious, it’s 13/2 with Coral for Hughton’s men to avenge the 1-0 defeat suffered at Cardiff’s hands back in December by grabbing the only goal themselves on this occasion.
