Sat 15.00: Southampton are 8/13 (Coral) to beat Derby in the Championship while Ipswich could upset the odds against Cardiff.
With leaders West Ham inactive, Southampton have the chance to depose them at the Championship’s summit and Saints should open up a two-point lead at the top by getting the better of Derby.
After a shaky spell, Nigel Adkins’ side have steadied the ship in the league, drawing with a trio of their promotion rivals – the Hammers, Birmingham and Cardiff – and racking up a 12th home win of the campaign at Burnley’s expense. The Rams on the other hand, are winless in four Championship outings and have failed to score in three of those games, so Southampton deserve to be odds-on favourites at 8/13 with Coral.
Skybet meanwhile, rate Adkins’ troops at 11/8 to prevail ‘to nil’ and for more ambitious punters, it’s 6/1 (Stan James) to finish 2-0 in favour of the hosts.
A home victory could also be on the cards at Portman Road but this time bookies disagree, bet365 making Ipswich 19/10 outsiders to send high-flying Cardiff home empty-handed. Paul Jewell’s men are languishing in 17th position so on the face of it they don’t look like obvious victors as they host the third-placed Bluebirds, but rejuvenated Ipswich come into the clash on the back of three straight wins and mauled leaders West Ham 5-1 recently while Malky Mackay’s men have been struggling on the road of late.
