Paul Ferguson has two selections for us today; Fire Fighter in the 1.25 (Warw) and Voler La Vedette in the 1.35 (Gow Pk). Compare odds.
Alan King has saddled the winner or Warwick’s opening juvenile hurdle three times in the past four years and he can make it four from five with Fire Fighter (1:25) this afternoon.
A useful sort on the level for Sir Mark Prescott, despite looking rather quirky at times, he shaped with plenty of promise on his hurdles debut at Sandown recently and should have learned plenty for that initial experience.
The son of Tiger Hill was a strong stayer on the Flat and he kept on really well on his hurdles bow, after coming under pressure some way out. He warmed to the task as the race unfolded and King reports him to have schooled well since.
Ten minutes later over in Ireland Voler La Vedette (1:35) is taken to get the better of Zaidpour in the Grade 2 Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran Park.
Colm Murphy’s top-class mare is in the form of her life at present and has defeated Mourad on her last two outings, in the Grade 1 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse and the Grade 2 Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown, where she proved she now stays this 3m trip.
Really testing ground would be the only concern but, in receipt of 7lbs from her main market rival, she is readily preferred, especially as she opened up at Evs on Wednesday evening, as I’d expected her to trade around 4/7.
Thursday’s selection:
1:25 Warwick Fire Fighter
1:35 Gowran Park Voler La Vedette
